On Friday November 27, 2009 a devastating house fire occurred in neighboring Wright Twp, unfortunately this one hit even closer to home with all of us. Squad 172 was requested around 19:00 hours to assist Rice Township Police on a special incident. Upon arriving units were asked to assist the Police with making entry to a residence. Police were called to residence for a welfare check and found the house to be overrun by cats. Apparently the owner of the residence had neglected the care of his animals and house. Saturday was a busy day for Firefighters in the Mountain Top area. At approximately 11:35Hrs Wright Twp units were dispatched to Rt 437 in the area of the industrial park for a brush fire. Upon going enroute 189(wright) chief dispatched Rice Twp, Dorrance Twp and Dennison units to assist due to the extremely dry conditions and the rate that the fire was traveling. At approx noon 172 Fire, Medic 9 and Mountain Top EMS were alerted to I-81 Southbound MM 159 inside the rest area for a Car vs. Pedestrian with injuries. The day started at approximately 14:00hrs when tones were dropped for a large brush fire in the area of 65 Ice Lakes Drive. Within minutes, 172 Engine 1 and Tanker were responding followed shortly by Squad 172. Unit's arrived to find a large brush fire that was growing quickly and endangering 2 structures. Units were alerted to a reported brush fire in Laurel Lakes. Upon sign on F-1 was advised there was no address associated with the call. Complaintant stated Laurel Lakes.
